Fleet Feet Racing top seeds at Cotton Row

Nike Fleet Feet Racing Huntsville earns 8 of the top 50 spots at Cotton Row 10km for women and 13 of the top 75 for men.

Weekend Results

In Chattanooga, Tennessee, Kathy Youngren took the overall win at the Scenic City Marathon atop Raccoon Mountain in a course record time of 3:37:50.  Kathy broke the old course record by 14 seconds.  Eric Charette was 4th overall in the half marathon with a time of 1:32:41.

Joey Butler ran 4:32:11 and Christy Scott finished in 4:39:57.  Half marathon results are still pending for Madelyn Patton.

Eric Fritz ran a near personal best at the Gurley Library Challenge 5km with a time of 20:10, finishing 2nd overall and 1st Men's Master.

In Priceville, Alabama on Saturday, Chris Platt won the Priceville Community Recreation Association (PCRA) 5km with a time of 16:07 and Eric Schotz was fifth overall with an 18:52 and David Rawlings ran 19:58.

Racing this Weekend

In Priceville, Alabama on Saturday, Eric Schotz and David Rawlings will be running the Priceville Community Recreation Association (PCRA) 5km.

In Chattanooga, Tennessee, Kathy Youngren, Christy Scott and Joey Butler will be running the Scenic City Marathon atop Raccoon Mountain. This rolling two loop course is hosted by Rock/Creek and runs around the Raccoon Mountain pumped storage from Lake Nickajack. Eric Charette and Madelyn Patton will be running the half marathon.

The Gurley Library Challenge 5km is also this weekend and there are sure to be some of our team athletes who will compete on this flat and fast course.  Eric Fritz has committed to racing Gurley and should be leading the way.  Rumored to be racing is Chris Platt and Donald Bowman has run this race many times and may be racing it this weekend as well.

Weekend Results

Here are the results from this weekend for the Fleet Feet Racing Team.

In Huntsville on Saturday morning there were several team members who ran the David McKannan MDA Run for Research 5km. Kevin Betts was using this race as 'rust-buster' before Cotton Row and he had a strong showing with a 17:41 and 2nd place overall. Conrad Meyer was 5th overall and 1st Men's Master with a 19:30.  Linda Scavarda was the 2nd overall female.

At the Jesse Owens 10km in Moulton, Alabama, Donald Bowman ran 35:54 and captured 3rd overall and was first Men's master. Jon Elmore finished just behind Donald in 36:55, continuing his fast times posted this year in road races. Official results are not available yet, but Eric Schotz and Joe Francica were 7th and 8th overall. Updates will be made once the results are available form the Shoals Trac club website.



At the HTC Harry Williams All Comers Track Meet, Shane O'Neill broke the 5 minute mile barrier in his first official attempt. After a fast 2:26 first 809 meters, Shane paced along with team mate Eric Charette for the final two laps in a time of 2:32 to clock in at 4:58.13. Racing Team captain Marty Clarke put on another great event that drew quite a few runners in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1 mile and 5km distances. Many Racing Team volunteers were out in force, including Linda Scavarda, Carl Smith, Eric Charette, Greg Reynolds and Brandon York.

Athlete of the Month - April

After scouring race results and blog posts for the month of April, here are the top Nike Fleet Fleet Racing Team athletes of the month.  Included are the events that earned them this distinction.  Athletes of the month are slightly different than top performances, as these runners had great showings at multiple events in the month.  The top athlete of each month will be honored at the year end Christmas Party.

The top performer of April is Tim Vinson.  His tune up overall win at the half marathon in Cullman, AL turned out to be the start of a great month as he later made his debut at the Boston Marathon, where we set a personal best with a time of 2:41:20.

Team Results

In the Chattahoochie National Forest on Friday, Rob Youngren completed a week long effort to set the fastest known time on the 335 mile Pinhoti National Recreation Trail. What began on Saturday, May 1 at 6:00 am atop Flagg Mountain in Alabama, culminated 6 days 8 hours and 48 minutes later at the Benton MacKaye Trailhead where Rob earned the distinction of being the fastest human ever to complete the trail. Rob proved his strength as be ran an average of 52 miles per day through tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, poison ivy, chigger bites and blazing heat into the low 90's.  Rob began the epic adventure run with Eric Charette, who made it 171 miles to the Alabama/Georgia state line in 4 days 5 hours 39 minutes and 12 seconds. This was the 2nd fastest time ever recorded for this Alabama Pinhoti, behind the time that Rob had set the day before. Crewing the duo along the way was fellow team mate Josh Kennedy. Providing crew support and pacing duties along the way were team mates David Riddle, Kathy Youngren, Dink Taylor, Blake Thompson, Joey Butler, Eric Fritz and DeWayne Satterfield

In Huntsville, the Music Moves Me 10km was run on Saturday. While full results are not available yet, it is known at Fleet Feet Racing took overall honors as Jon Elmore ran a personal best time of 36:27.  This is Jon's 3rd victory already this year with many more events to come.

Weekend Results

The Nike Fleet Feet Racing Team from Huntsville was very active and turned in some impressive performances at various distances this weekend, fighting rain and wind to do so. Results are still trickling in and will be posted here as they become available.
Starting out west in Corinth, MS, at the 29th Annual Corinth Coca-Cola Classic 10K Run, Candace Jacobs was the second overall female running a 39:44. This year, the Coke 10k was the RRCA state championship for Mississippi and had over 700 finishers.
Closer to home in Madison, AL, was the inaugural Run Through the Roses 10k with over 400 finishers. Katie Maehlmann took the overall female win in 44:30. Donald Bowman took second overall by running a 37:00. Madelyn Patton was the second female master with a 50:14. Joe Francica was the second master with a 40:56.
The Steeplechase 8k in Decatur saw Jon Elmore take the masters win and 2nd overall. Jon ran the 8k course in 29:33.
In Huntsville, Linda Scavarda and Christy Scott joined Team Cupcake in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. The team was able to accumulate 266.4 miles overnight.
The Strolling Jim 40 miler in Wartrace, TN is one of the most competitive road ultras. Saturday was the 32nd annual running of this event. Dink Taylor notched his 24th consecutive finish in this race with a 6:09. Eric Fritz and Kathy Youngren finished in 6:04. Update will be posted when official results are available.
Eric Charette and Rob Youngren began their Pinhoti Adventure Run on Saturday. This is an attempt to set the fastest known time for covering the Pinhoti Trail. Today, they began their journey at Flagg Mountain in Alabama and ran to Porters Gap. They covered 52 miles in 12:48. Track their progress at the Pinhoti Trail Adventure Run blog.
On Sunday at the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati, David Rawlings ran a 3:30:57 and Lisa Rawlings ran a 3:59:19.
