Weekend Results
This weekend the Nike Fleet Feet Racing Team from Huntsville raced strong at all distances from 5km to 15km to 8 hour ultra marathon. Here are the details.
At Sweetwater Creek State Park in Lithia Springs, Georgia, Eric Schotz made a valiant effort for top honors in stifling heat at Hot to Trot 8 Hour Ultra Marathon. Temperatures soared into near triple digits by days end but that did not stop Eric from running 46.059 miles (10:12 pace for 39 laps of the 1.137769 mile long loop) in 7 hours, 49 minutes and 49 seconds. Eric finished 5th overall amongst a strong field of 60 total runners. In his own words, Eric said "I obeyed the race slogan which is Please Don't Die."
At the Dog Trot in Huntsville, Alabama, James Falcon was 3rd overall. This race was held at the John Hunt Cross Country Park, which has the hill climb and of course more of that Alabama/August heat and allowed runners to compete with man's best friend on a leash.
In Iron Mountain, Michigan, Eric Charette ran a near personal best 55:42 at the Lake Antoine Classic 15km. This rolling hill course around Fumee Lake is mostly two-track but has plenty of loose gravel and soft sand to deal with. Eric set the pace and lead the race for 7.5 miles until Anders Nienstaedt (age 20 of St. Olaf College) picked up the pace and pulled away, leaving Eric in 2nd place. This was the 33rd running of the "Classic".
