Brief Biography

I grew up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and attended college at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan. While there, I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and am a Registered Professional Engineer. I began running at age 27, but it was not until moving to Huntsville, AL in 2006 when I began to run trails, ultramarathons and compete at a competitive level. I have been married to my wife Laura for 8 years and we have two dogs, Prisoner of Azkaban Sirius Beagle (Siri) who has been trail running with us for 5 years and recently we got a new puppy, named Dawson’s Creek Josephine Lillian Potter (Fiina). I enjoy writing about my running adventures and maintain an online running blog, which can be found at www.siriusultrarunner.com. I am driven through hard work and determination to realize my dreams and find the upper limits of my abilities.

Short Term Goals

In the short term I have some very specific goals, mostly related to endurance running. My plans include notching fast times and top spots at Mountain Mist 50km and Mount Cheaha 50km. In March, I will be looking to run sub 3:40 for 50km at Delano Park and then a top 3 at McKay Hollow Half Marathon. I will be making an effort to claim at least one Alabama State Age record. Later in the spring, I will be teaming up with Rob Youngren as we attempt an FKT (Fastest Known Time) on the entire 325 mile Pinhoti Trail. Other short term goals include turning in top performances at the Chattanooga Mountains Stage Race and Stump Jump later in the fall. Sometime in 2010 I would also like to run Rim to Rim to Rim in the Grand Canyon.

Long Term Goals

In the long term, I would like to log 100,000 miles of running in my lifetime. I would also like to thru hike the Appalachian Trail end to end. Someday I would like to race a sub 24 hour 100-mile race and run 100 ultra marathons all competitively.

Ambassadorship

I participate regularly in store activities, including social events, fun runs and in all of the training programs hosted by Fleet Feet. I also proudly wear Fleet Feet gear every chance that I get, in training and road racing. I train hard, coach other runners and do my best to be a role model in the community, which I believe is what Fleet Feet is looking for in their team members.
